A list of the top six ‘off-the-radar’ holiday destinations includes Cambria’s own seaside village on the Central Coast.
Wendy Gold, author of the June 30 report for www.bestlifeonline.com, identified the six communities chosen as “hidden gems worthy of your travel list that really are still hidden.”
Gold wrote of Cambria: “This quaint town is home to unspoiled coastlines and reserves, picture-perfect inns and charming restaurants. Hunt for moonstones at the beach…try the famous olallie berry pie at Linn’s and partake in forest bathing – or just take a walk or bike ride – at Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.
She also suggested trying fresh cheeses from Stepladder Creamery.
The main photo in Gold’s report was of Cambria’s one-mile-long Moonstone Beach boardwalk, which winds along the shoreline cliffs and offers sweeping ocean views.
Woody Sears, co-founder of travel app Autio, described in Gold’s report a bumper sticker from another city on the June 30 list, which reads “we’re all here because we don’t we’re not all here”.
Among the things Sears mentioned and Gold cites about “this little beach town…. (there were plenty) of open spaces, walking and biking trails, and wild beaches. …It also has an attractive downtown area with plenty of dining options.
In order, the six communities highlighted as “off the radar” destinations that are “less saturated with tourists (and tourist traps!) but still rich in culture” were:
- Port Townsend, Washington (where Sears found the sticker)
- Tubac, Arizona
- New River Gorge, West Virginia
- cambria
- Shipshewana, Indiana
- Bend, OR
Gold said that sometimes visits to places like these are “just what the soul craves.”
